Thanks for speaking with UK Film Review. For those who don't know you, please can you let our readers know a bit more about you and your filmmaking background? My name is Alex Devlin, I'm 25 years old, and I'm the founder and CEO of Devine Animation Studios, a small independent animation studio based in Oban, Scotland.

As an actor, you experience very quickly what works and what doesn't. You know when dialogue feels natural and when you're fighting against something that nobody would actually say. You also learn how much a director can help an actor simply by creating the right environment.

For me, Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpiece is Princess Mononoke, a film that combines spectacle with a morally complex story. It delivers a nuanced environmental message without dividing its characters into simple categories of good and evil.

I recently had the pleasure of hosting a special video interview with Canadian filmmaking duo Mark Wolfe and Kerry McArthur, the directors and writers behind the indie feature The Orchard, which we recently reviewed on the UK Film Club podcast.

Over the last few years, I’ve also started working behind the camera as well as in front of it, and I tend to wear many hats across British Horror Studio productions. Most recently, I made my feature directorial debut with Spoiling You, an ASMR horror film which premiered at Romford Horror Film Festival in February 2026.

You are back with a new film, Noblestone. What's it about, and what made you want to return to the quirky caretaker character of Karen, and how did you approach evolving her story this time around?

Just like with Steven Spielberg, I have a different answer for what I consider Christopher Nolan's best film and what my favourite film of Nolan's is. To me, Oppenheimer is Nolan’s magnum opus and the film that won him Best Director and Best Picture at the Oscars for the first time. Oppenheimer showed that Nolan could create a 3-hour talky biopic about the creation and aftermath of the atomic bomb and make it an intense and enthralling masterpiece.

Trying to choose the best Steven Spielberg film is nearly an impossible task. The great man himself has changed the cinematic landscape on multiple occasions creating classic after classic. From creating the modern-day Summer blockbuster with Jaws, to reinventing the sci-fi genre with Close Encounters of the Third Kind to revolutionising CGI and animatronics with Jurassic Park, Spielberg has a fair few films to pick from.

That being said, there have been questions about how much money Tom Cruise got paid for Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, as well as the money he's made in total from all of the M:I movies.
