Heart of the Beast
UKFR absolutely love a movie that isn’t afraid to pair high-octane action with a massive dose of genuine emotional heart. So, you can imagine our excitement when Paramount Pictures released the spectacular first trailer for Heart of the Beast. Boasting a powerhouse cast that features Brad Pitt, J.K. Simmons, and Anna Lambe, this looks to be an absolute powerhouse of a survival drama. If this gripping two-minute preview is anything to go by, we are in for a deeply moving, white-knuckle ride that explores the unbreakable bond between humans and our four-legged companions.
The story introduces us to James, a retired Army Special Forces operative played by a rugged, deeply soulful Brad Pitt. James has retreated far out into the wilderness, seeking peace alongside his loyal companion, Odin. But Odin isn’t just any dog; he’s a retired combat scouting canine who bears the physical and emotional scars of their shared time on the front lines. The trailer does a beautiful job of establishing their deep connection, showing James comforting Odin through a vivid, gunfire-filled nightmare, gently reminding him that they aren't in that dangerous world anymore.
However, the peace they’ve fought so hard to find is shattered when they face a perilous situation in an unforgiving territory known to locals as "the heart of the beast." As an unexpected crisis forces them into a brutal battle against the elements and unseen threats, the film transforms into a thrilling race for survival. J.K. Simmons pops up looking brilliantly sharp and brings his signature gravelly charm to the mix, adding a fantastic layer of grit and humour to the unfolding drama.
What has us truly buzzing about Heart of the Beast is how it flips the classic survival narrative on its head. This isn't just about a man saving his dog; it’s an equal partnership where man and beast rely on one another to stay alive. The action sequences look incredibly intense, featuring desperate scrambles through treacherous terrain and roaring rapids, yet the trailer always anchors itself back to the emotional stakes. There is a beautifully resonant line that sums up the spirit of the entire film: it’s not the size of the dog in the fight that matters, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.
While the team at UK Film Review haven't been invited to see the full film just yet, this trailer has given us every reason to be optimistic. Power Ballad
What has us incredibly excited about Power Ballad is the dynamic friction between its two leads. Paul Rudd seems perfectly cast as the rugged, everyday musician who just wanted a shot at the big time, acknowledging with a heavy heart that having his name on a song of that magnitude would have completely changed his life.
Dune: Part Three
